![]() Depending on your input, we'll either ship now (if you don't mind the risk), or hold/reserve for the next available safe (guaranteed) temperature window. If your order is held, we'll email you ASAP to work out a safer shipping schedule & discuss your options. We aren't able to offer our guarantee when temperatures are below 20 ☏ above 95 ☏, so our team will hold your order in anticipation of the soonest safe shipping window. Please select express shipping during checkout, to give your perishables the best chance of survival. Sorry, but we do not offer "hold for safe window" service when standard shipping is selected in temperatures this extreme. If you are ordering a bunch of heavier supplies and perishables, it's often cheaper to place two separate orders so that the supplies can cheaply ship ground while the smaller perishable box ships express. It is very unlikely your plants will survive if shipped using standard service in these temperatures, and we don't recommend it! You can choose to take that risk by selecting Standard shipping during checkout (the default option), but we won't be able to replace or refund any items if they arrive damaged. ★ Possible Order Hold Due to Temperatures ★ If you have any information regarding the separation of these two (large & small) varieties, please let us know at since all of the information we've been able to find has been shaky at best! While the smaller variety tends to spread horizontally, this larger form grows in more of an upward patten before it begins to spread outward. We've seen two plants marketed as Pilea microphylla, and this is the larger of the two. This one is a pretty fast grower, and we wouldn't recommend keeping it in any enclosure where fairly routine maintenance isn't acceptable. Relative humidity as low as 45% is fairly well tolerated, so long as it's substrate is kept moist. In a terrarium environment, Artillery Plant tolerates far more dry conditions than the majority of tropical plants we sell. This species thrives as a houseplant, and is extremely forgiving so long as it's kept relatively moist. Like the overwhelming majority of plants, Pilea grown in live vivariums do not require additional fertilization.įlowers of this plant burst, shooting pollen long distances and earning the plant it's "Artillery" name. That same regimen would likely be a good starting place, if you'll be keeping them as houseplants. The available plants are raised in the mild potting soil and ship before they require additional nutrients, but the mother plant stock we propagate from are fed using extremely mild, balanced, organic nutrients every 2-3 months. The majority of our available Pilea are simply grown in our specially mixed organic potting soil. Pilea seem to thrive with some airflow, so we keep them on the "more windy" shelves & positions throughout our grow rooms. We maintain relative humidity between 65-75%, keep temperatures between 68-85F, and utilize automated misting & watering cycles whenever we can. The PAR rating of most of our Pilea growing areas ranges from just 40-65µMol/M²S at plant level, with only a few (early development) racks metering higher. Most of our Pilea are grown under basic T5HO lighting, with a handful of the more sensitive species being grown under low output custom LEDs. We only work with around 10 types of Pilea, but they are some of the more popular varieties we sell. ![]()
